If you tolerate this then your children will be next.
Why these actions cannot be condoned, or do you want a police state?
I implore all citizens to take up some action against the bullying and intimidation of EUL and the government.
We saw the EUL management refuse to allow unionisation of the teaching staff = against the constitution.
We saw university teachers sacked while they were on strike = illegal dismissal.
We saw the work of university teachers given to other staff = illegal action.
We saw the jobs of university teachers given to other people = illegal action.
We saw the arrest of the union leader, dragged from his Ghandi style sitting position in front of EUL’s gate, dragged, beaten, thrown against iron railings, thrown to the ground, and manhandled into a police car and taken to the local Lefke police station.
We saw trained riot police, policing in a heavy handed way, against young women and aging professors.
What is coming next?
Arrests for joining a trade union?
Beatings and worse for anyone who speaks out?
The disappearance of trade union activists?
Don’t you see, that if you close your eyes to the flagrant abuse of power, we are a small step away from leaving our democratic rights in the gutter and becoming a police state.
